Who we are
This website is run by Insanity Networks, trading as Harris Web Design. We decide what happens to the personal information described on this page, which in data protection law makes us the controller of it.
You can reach us at [email protected]. Whoever you write to, the same address handles questions about this policy and any request about your information.
The short version
This site has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no cookies. Nothing here follows you between visits or onto other websites.
There is one form, the enquiry form at the bottom of the homepage. If you do not use it and do not email us, the only record of your visit is a line in a server log that is deleted within fourteen days.
What we collect, and when
- If you use the enquiry form
- The form asks for your first name, how you heard about us and a message, all of which it needs, and for your last name, your email address and your telephone number. One of email or telephone is required, because otherwise we have no way to answer you. What you send is written to a file on our server that is not reachable from the web, and a copy is emailed to us so that we see it. We use it to reply to you and to carry out any work you go on to ask for. The form stores nothing else about you or your device.
- If you email us
- Our email address is a link on every page. If you use it we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you decide to tell us about yourself or your business. We use it to reply to you, and to carry out any work you go on to ask us for.
- Server logs
- Our web server records each request it serves: the IP address it came from, the date and time, the page requested, your browser's user agent string, and the page that referred you if there was one. This is ordinary web server logging. We use it to keep the site working and to spot attacks on it.
- Your choice of typeface
- The site has a menu for trying the headline in different typefaces. If you pick one, your choice is saved in your own browser under the name hwd-display-font so the site can remember it next time. It stays on your device, it is never sent to us, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Cookies
We do not set any cookies. There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to ask you about.
Other companies involved
Three other companies necessarily see something when you visit:
- Cloudflare
- sits in front of this site as a content delivery network and security layer. Every request reaches Cloudflare before it reaches our server, so Cloudflare processes your IP address and the details of the request in order to serve the page and to block attacks.
- Our hosting provider
- runs the server the site is stored on, and the server keeps the logs described above.
- serves the typefaces. When a page loads, your browser asks fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com for the font files, and those requests tell Google your IP address and which browser you are using. We have no analytics or advertising connection with Google and we send them nothing else about you.
When you email us, your message is handled by our email provider in the ordinary way that email works.
Where your information is handled
The server that runs this site is in Quebec, Canada, so serving you a page involves a transfer of personal data outside the United Kingdom. The UK recognises Canada as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data handled by commercial organisations, which is the basis for that transfer.
Cloudflare and Google both operate globally and may process the information described above outside the UK, under the safeguards their own terms provide.
Why we are allowed to do this
- Our legitimate interests. Replying to people who contact us, keeping the site online, and protecting it from attack. We have considered your interests in reaching those conclusions, and none of this involves profiling you or building a picture of you.
- Performing a contract. If you become a client, we use your details to do the work and to invoice you for it.
- A legal obligation. Where we have invoiced you, tax law requires us to keep the records behind that invoice.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: rotated every day and deleted after fourteen days.
- Enquiries sent through the form: kept on the same terms as the emails below.
- Emails from people who get in touch: kept while we are in contact, and for up to twelve months afterwards so that we can pick up a conversation where it left off. Ask us to delete yours sooner and we will.
- Client records: kept for the duration of the work, and the invoicing records for six years afterwards because UK tax law requires it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it deleted, to ask us to restrict what we do with it, to object to us using it, and to receive it in a portable form.
To use any of those rights, email [email protected]. We will answer within one month. There is nothing to pay.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, helpline 0303 123 1113, or Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. You can complain to them without speaking to us first, although we would rather you gave us the chance to put it right.
Children
This site is meant for people running a business. It is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information about them.
Security
Pages are served over an encrypted connection only. The site itself holds no database, no accounts and no passwords, so there is nothing stored here that could be taken from it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. It was last updated on 19 September 2026.
